Welcome!  The University of Northern British Columbia node of NEARBC is located at the UNBC Annex at UNBC.

About Us

Geographically situated in the largest of the node regions, the UNBC node is dedicated to working with the many communities within the northern corridors.  Our goals are to facilitate the growth and furthering of partnerships and collaborations with Aboriginal communities, networks and academic institutions.

Node Leader

Margo Greenwood | greenwom@unbc.ca
Scientific Director National collaborating Centre for Aboriginal Health

Margo Greenwood is a Cree woman, a mother of three sons, who has been working in the field of Early Childhood Education for more than two decades, focusing on both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal children. Margo has also participated in the development of three federal early childhood programs: The First Nations Inuit Child Care Initiative, the Aboriginal Head Start Urban and Northern Program, and the First Nations Head Start Program. Most recently she has been appointed as Academic Leader of the National Collaborating Centre for Aboriginal Health, is the Site Director for the Centre of Excellence for Children and Adolescents with Special Needs: UNBC Task force on Substance Abuse, and Node Leader for the Network Environments for Aboriginal Research BC. Margo is both personally and professionally committed to the health and well being of children, families, and community.

Node Coordinator

Katrina is the research associate and coordinator for the northern node of NEARBC. A local northerner located in Prince George, Katrina is the mother of 3 adult children and about to become a grandmother. Katrina's educational background is in community/project development and Social Work Katrina holds both a BSW and MSW; her thesis work was the development of a parenting program for parents who have FASD. Katrina is looking forward to obtaining her PhD which will focus on issues of ethics in practice. Katrina has a very broad work history which has included working with Aboriginal Communities, various levels of Government, Education, and Health, and not for profit organizations. Similar to her cross discipline work history, Katrina also has a broad research background covering : Aboriginal health and social Issues, child welfare, Children with HIV, Inter-professional team work, FASD, Children with special needs, Rural and Remote issues, Forensic social work, Ethics and Law: Health and Social Work, Poverty, Displaced workers, Social Justice and Community development. Katrina is committed to community development and sits on numerous boards and committees at the local, regional and national levels including the Public Health Association of BC, BC Social Workers Association and Building Healthy communities' initiative.
