The mission of the NEARBC is to create an environment where researchers and communities collaborate to develop research capacity that is relevant to Aboriginal peoples and is competitive in national and international arenas.

NEARBC is leading Aboriginal population health research funded by Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research based at the Centre for Aboriginal Health Research (CAHR) located at the University of Victoria in partnership with the University of Northern British Columbia.
